Principal's Pennings

7 December Penning

7 December

History is one of my favorite subjects.  I love looking in the past and seeing how civilizations rose to power and how they fell from this power.   I also love examining the scientific achievements that were discovered during their rise and how these advances helped them become great.  Looking historically, many civilizations become dominant because of an advance in weaponry, mobility, and defense.  This advance only last as long as the other side did not learn from that advancement. I believe that the major reason that these ancient civilizations fell from power is that the leaders eventually thought they were gods and could do whatever they felt like doing.

Looking at the Bible, strictly as a historical book, you learn how since Cain killed Abel there has been violence in what is now the middle east.  How some of the ancient civilizations were descendants of the sons of Noah (Genesis 10).  How the rise of the Roman Empire and their greatly improved transit system provided a means for the Christian faith to be spread all over the known world.  I also enjoy studying:

  • · How even during the fall, God has a plan for the world?  Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
  • · He has a purpose for us.  Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
  • · He promises us a Savior.  Luke 1:31-33, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
  • · He promises to come again to take us to heaven. John 14: 1-3, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”Read more ...
