On Wednesday, Pastor Froiland led chapel and based part of his message on the 4th commandment.  Honor your father and your mother.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not despise or anger our parents and other authorities, but honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them.  Friday is Grandparents’ Day at MLA (and Sunday is National Grandparents’ Day).  It is a day filled with excitement and joy for both the grandparents and the kids. They get to spend quality time together and the students tour them around their school.  It’s a day that we “honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them.”  The children love having their grandparents/special person join them at school.

In all the years I have participated in Grandparents’ Day (as a teacher), I have never heard of a grandparent expressing that they didn’t enjoy their time with their grandchild(ren).  More often than not, they express what a joy it was to have spent time with them.  We are told in Proverbs 17:6 “Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.”  At the end of Grandparents’ Day, you can see the joy on their faces from a day filled with pride and excitement.
